Unveiling of Aboriginal Woman and Child Statue

Please put Saturday 24th of September in your diaries as the day that the Governor of SA, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, will officially unveil the Robert Hannaford bronze statue of Aboriginal Woman and Child. The casting of this statue has been made possible by the considerable generosity of Mr Hannaford, a generous donation from a local businessman, money from the Christopher Turner Bequest, works from the Clare and Gilbert Valley Council re the Plinth construction, and public fundraising, . This precious gift will be sited at the front of the Community Hall, and all residents are invited, and indeed encouraged to attend the unveiling, which will be an historical moment for our town. More information re timings will be available soon.

Neighbours Day

The Riverton Community Management Committee is to host a Sausage Sizzle and Salads day on a twice yearly basis to not only welcome new residents to Riverton and the district, but to also encourage current residents to bring their neighbours, particularly those who may not have a large circle of friends or family in town.

We have a great community here in Riverton and we believe that this is supportive of good neighbourly relations among all residents.

Our next Neighbours Day is to be held at Scholz Park on a date yet to be confirmed.

Jingles Community Shed and Garden

The Shed’,  situated at the old Council Depot on Oxford Terrace contains an awesome array of equipment to handle all manner of work and maintenance that you would expect of a professional handyman service.  The men who attend are happy to talk to anyone about small maintenance jobs around town and over a number of years have made a difference to the community.

An important aspect of ‘The Shed’ is the fellowship that the guys share; a cuppa at the shed is far more than just a cuppa.  The Main days for the Shed are Wednesday and Thursday between 10 & 2.

We are always looking for new members to join the group.

‘The Garden’ is situated at the old Pony Club on Mill Street.  Over a number of years many people have benefited from the produce and some have been involved at the Garden with all that a garden requires -  sowing, weeding and cultivating to eventually reaping the produce.  An ambitious plan is in place to grow enough vegetables to not only provide for an ongoing supply for residents to eat good, healthy, fresh vegetables, but also to hold regular Open Days and an annual Community Vegetarian Feast.

There are a group of committed gardeners who each week tend and tidy the garden so that it can also be a pleasant place to walk around.  The main day for the Garden is Tuesday between 8 & 10.

We are always happy for people to visit or volunteer for a couple of hours each week.

'The Duckponds'

After extensive remodeling, the Riverton Duck Ponds are looking wonderful; the BBQ has been rendered, new native trees planted and a bridge, walking paths and seating provided.

Plan your next BBQ or picnic on the grounds, it is well worth a trip, and while there, check out the new entrance statement.
